Who we are
Meme City is a board game for phones and the web. It is operated by KJO Studios LLC, a California limited liability company (entity number B20260434459), 785 Oak Grove Rd Ste E2 #1280, Concord, CA 94518 ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the game collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have.
Questions or requests: kjostudios@gmail.com.
The short version
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
- There are no ads, no advertising SDKs and no third-party analytics in the game.
- You sign in with an email address through our login provider, Privy. Our own game servers store Privy's account identifier, not your email address.
- Card details are entered with Apple or Stripe and never reach us.
- You can delete your account inside the game, at any time, from Settings.
What we collect
Sign-in. You sign in with an email address. That sign-in is run by Privy, which receives and holds your email address. Our servers receive Privy's identifier for your account and store that. On the website only, you may instead sign in with a crypto wallet, in which case Privy receives your public wallet address.
Your player profile. The display name (handle) you choose, the game piece you play as, your level, and an invite code we generate for you.
Game activity. What you do in the game: rolls and moves, balances of in-game currencies and items, properties, cards, market listings and trades, raids, event progress, and the dates you played. We need this to run the game and keep it fair.
Purchases. When you buy something, we record the item, the price, the date, the status (for example, completed or refunded) and the transaction identifiers issued by Apple, Google or Stripe. We never receive your card number or bank details.
Notifications. If you allow notifications in the iOS or Android app, we store the device token Apple or Google issues for your device, so we can send game notifications (for example, a reminder that your rent is about to stop). We do not ask for notifications on the website.
Technical information. Our servers use your IP address briefly to limit abusive request rates; we do not store it in our game database. Our hosting provider may keep standard request logs.
On your device. The game stores a few items in your browser or app storage: your sign-in session, your player ID, an invite code from a link you followed, your sound, music and haptics settings, and whether we have already asked about notifications. Privy's sign-in software stores its own session data. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
What we do not collect. We do not ask for your real name, phone number, postal address, precise location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone, and we do not collect advertising identifiers.
How we use it
- To run the game: your account, your city, other players' interactions with you, and the in-game economy.
- To process purchases, deliver what you bought, and handle refunds and fraud.
- To send notifications you have allowed.
- To understand how the game is doing, using statistics we compute on our own servers from game data (for example, daily active players and in-game currency totals).
- To enforce our Terms of Service, including investigating cheating and abuse.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Who we share it with
Service providers that run parts of the game for us, each only for that purpose:
- Privy, for sign-in.
- Apple, for App Store purchases and iPhone notifications. We send Apple an anonymous account ID with a purchase so it is credited to the right player.
- Google, for Google Play purchases and Android notifications, once the Android app is available.
- Stripe, for purchases on the website. We send Stripe your player ID and the item you are buying.
- Railway, which hosts our servers and database.
Other players. Your handle, game piece and some game activity are visible to other players, for example on leaderboards, in raid notifications and on market listings.
Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to valid legal process, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our players, the public or us.
Business transfers. If KJO Studios LLC is merged, acquired or sells the game, player information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account exists. You can delete your account in the game from Settings, Danger zone, Delete account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. It:
- removes your handle, your link to your Privy login, any linked wallet address, your sessions, your notification tokens, and your profile and tutorial data;
- removes your in-game balances and returns your properties to the game;
- replaces your handle with an anonymous label anywhere it was shown to other players.
We keep some records after deletion, linked only to an anonymous account number: purchase records (for financial and tax record-keeping), the game's internal transaction logs and moderation records, and anonymous activity counts used for game statistics. We keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Deleting your game account does not delete your login at Privy. If you would also like that removed, email kjostudios@gmail.com from the address you sign in with and we will ask Privy to delete it.
Your choices and rights
- Notifications: turn them off at any time in your device's settings.
- Your handle: you choose it when you start; to change it later, email kjostudios@gmail.com.
- Delete: delete your account in the game, as described above.
- Access or correction: email kjostudios@gmail.com to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, or to correct it.
We will verify that a request comes from the account holder before acting on it, and we aim to respond within 45 days.
California residents
California law gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to request a copy of it; to ask us to correct or delete it; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We extend these rights to every player, whether or not a particular law applies to a business our size.
Do Not Sell or Share. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and give you a way to opt out first.
Do Not Track. The game does not track you across other websites or apps, so it does not change its behaviour in response to browser Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals.
Shine the Light. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.
To make a request, email kjostudios@gmail.com. You may use an authorised agent, who must show us your written permission.
Children
Meme City is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old to play. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the game and our servers, keep payment details with Apple and Stripe rather than ourselves, and limit access to player data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information sent over the internet.
Where we operate
We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. By playing, you understand that your information will be processed there.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this address with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the game before it takes effect.
